Bio

james-hubbard-the-survival-doctorJames Hubbard never liked hunting. Growing up in Mississippi, he spent many an hour in a deer blind with his dad, a police officer, but what he really wanted to do was fix things. James Robert, as he was called, wanted to be a doctor.

So that’s what he did. But after over 30 years of family medical practice, James combined his medical training with his outdoorsy roots to become one of the nation’s top survival-medicine experts. Through his popular website TheSurvivalDoctor.com and books, like his latest, Duct Tape 911: The Many Amazing Medical Things You Can Do to Tape Yourself Together and Living Ready Pocket Manual: First Aid, he shares information with hunters, homesteaders, campers and men- and women-next-door who have the forethought to prepare for disasters.

At his website, Dr. Hubbard writes about how to treat a wide variety of health problems when getting professional health is impossible. His evidence-based tips are a combination of modern medicine, makeshift treatments and Grandma’s home remedies—some of which he witnessed while practicing in Mississippi, treating patients from rural areas who couldn’t get to a doctor right away.

Dr. Hubbard has done just about everything you can imagine in family care. He’s worked in clinics, urgent-care facilities and emergency rooms—in small towns and big cities. A graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, he trained at the acclaimed Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He has a master’s in public health and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, American Medical Association and Wilderness Medical Society.
